The end of the year brings a lot of craziness for most people. You may be running around, preparing for cooler weather, visiting relatives or the perfect social media-worthy holiday photo but now is the time to also think about yourself. Practicing self-care allows you to be the best version of yourself and therefore a better help to others.
If this is something you’ve struggled with lately here are a few tips:
Take time to practice mindfulness. Mindfulness is all about being in the moment. It’s asking your brain to turn off the to-do list and just focus on your own body. There are several apps that will walk you through mindfulness exercises. No silly poses are required—just ten minutes of quiet thoughtfulness. You may be surprised what 10 minutes of self-reflection can bring to your day.
Reach out to others. I know what you’re thinking—I spend all DAY caring for other people! But when is the last time you reached out to someone who isn’t your child and asked what you can do to help? Helping others can help you see your own challenges from a new perspective and may help develop talents you didn’t know you have.
