Most people separate darks from white before throwing in the washing machine, but do you separate delicate fabrics from those that wrinkle easily or your sheets and towels?
Your washing machine offers you different washing cycles for a reason. If you’re unsure which is right for the item your washing, this article may help.
While there are some truly fancy machines on the market, most offer three cleaning settings.
Regular:
Use the regular or normal wash setting for all the items you wash at least weekly like towels and sheets. This cycle offers a fast agitation which is good for durable fabrics that tend to soak up a lot of grime like cotton.
Permanent Press
This cycle is best for jeans, polyester and any items that wrinkle easily. It gives those items a fast agitation but a slower spin at the end which may prevent some wrinkles.
Delicate
The delicate setting is for silks and any items that say to wash gently. The machine moves a little slower, putting less stress on the fabric so your items don’t wear out as quickly. Be sure to read the labels carefully, as certain materials should not go through the wash and may require a dry cleaner.
While delicate is slow, it may not be delicate enough for items that are marked “hand wash only”. Use caution when washing these items.
