Swimsuit Care Tips from the Phoenix / Scottsdale Dry Cleaning Professionals Prestige Cleaners
With the temps hitting triple digits daily in Scottsdale during the summer, you’re either hightailing it out of town for a cooler, watery environment or hanging around a Valley pool. Either way, you’ll likely be wearing your swimsuit––a lot––this season! With that in mind, the clothing experts at Prestige Cleaners are on hand with five handy tips for keeping your swimsuit in tip-top shape this summer.
1. Prep a New Suit
Prestige Cleaners’ swimwear experts recommend prepping a brand new suit before wearing it in the pool or at the beach. Soak your new swimsuits for 30 minutes in a cold vinegar and water mixture (add one tablespoon white vinegar per quart of water), which should prevent dye from bleeding.
2. Wash ASAP After Use.
The synthetic and polyester fabrics used in swimsuits are weakened by chlorine and salt water. This causes fabric to sag and bulge, two things you most definitely don’t want to associate with a swimsuit. Meanwhile, sweat combined with products like deodorant and sunscreen can stain and discolor your suit after even one trip to the water. Counteract these elements by washing your swimsuit immediately after use.
3. Hand Wash.
Avoid washing your swimsuit in a washing machine, which can damage delicate parts of a swimsuit like padding, cups, or embellishments. Instead, treat your swimsuit to a gentle hand wash in cold water using mild hand soap or a detergent specifically formulated for delicates. Also, don’t hang your swimsuit to dry, which can stretch it out. Instead, lay your swimsuit out on a towel, roll the towel, gently squeezing, before laying your swimsuit out on a dry towel to air out. Avoid leaving your suit out in direct sunlight and remember to allow your suit to dry completely before stowing it away.
4. Rotate Suits.
Don’t wear the same swimsuit on back-to-back days. If you want to keep you swimsuits in tip-top shape, it’s essential to have more than one to rotate out. This gives your swimsuit fabric a chance to dry and snap back to its usual position before you wear it again.
5. Avoid Rough Surfaces.
While wearing a swimsuit, never sit directly on a rough surface like a wooden bench, rough sand, or the ground next to a pool. Rough and uneven surfaces can cause snags and tears in swimsuit material. The clothing experts at Prestige Cleaners recommend always sitting on a towel or wearing a sarong around your waist when you’re not in the water, which will preserve the integrity of your swimsuit bottom.
